Maui, Hawaii, USA
ABOUT MAUI, HAWAII The County of Maui in the state of Hawaii is located in the North Pacific Ocean, about five and a half hours from Los Angeles, California and about eleven hours with one stop from New York City or New Jersey. Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiin Islands and the 17th largest Island in the United States. Some popular towns in Maui are Hana, Ka’anapali, Kapalua, Kihei, Kula, Lahaina, Makawo, Makena, Pa ‘ia and Wailea. This beautiful Island is known for whale watching, mountains, breath taking sunsets, volcanoes, waterfalls, clear water beaches, surfing and sporadic rain showers. Maui is a very laid back and nature oriented place, expect to see fruits and vegetables trees in peoples backyards. The locals sell theirs fruits along the side of the roads on the honer system, meaning no one is attending the stand, buyer leaves money in a small box. It’s two major industries are agriculture (pineapples, macadamia nuts, coffee, exotic tropical flowers, sugar and papayas) and tourism, making
Maui a highly desirable location. One month in Maui was just not enough for us. HANA – Located in the Eastern end of the Island. Go to Hana by traveling the long winding road of Hana Highway along the northern shore. Hana Highway can be dangerous due to its one car narrow winding roads. Once you are there, you will see that it’s a very isolated place with tons of greens and beautiful beaches. Expect to find animals walking on the road, limited shopping and zero commercial importance. Hana is a secluded oasis, very peaceful, up country, beautiful and natural place. A
place you go to if you want to be away from society and want to reach total relaxation. It has been mentioned that Oprah Winfrey owns a beautiful chunk of land there. KA’ANAPALI – Located in the Western end of the Island. Ka’anapali is a very commercialized area with some popular resorts and lot’s of shopping. Expect to find
some beautiful beaches, crowds and tons of franchises. KAPALUA – Located in the Northwest end of the Island, north of Ka’anapali. Kapalua is an incredible place, expect to come across some of the most beautiful beaches
ever and incredible green natural landscaping. Kapalua is a melting pot of climates, ranging from rainbows to cloudy skies, beaming hot sun and short rain showers. Expect to see turtles by the rocks in the beaches, surfing by the bay, five stars resorts and lots of cool condos, snorkelers, pineapple farms and delicious cuisines. While
in Kapalua, visit Napili, a very fun and laid-back small town. KIHEI- Located in the South side of the Island along the coast. Kihei is a busy area, tons tall buildings, condos, small hotels, town houses and a lots of shopping malls/ plazas. Here is where you can find almost every chain store from A to Z. in the middle of busy roads and outstanding sunsets. KULA – Located almost in the center Island. Kula is rural area with almost no commercial popularity. There are two parts of Kula the upper and lower. Upper Kula has a cooler climate and is close to the Haliakala National Park. Lower Kula is known for growing some vegetables and carnations. Kula offers some fantastic views from
it’s high peaks. LAHAINA – Located southwest of the island. Lahaina is a high touristy area along the water about 2 miles long. Cruise ships docking, boats parked everywhere for their daily excursions, busy street with tons of jewelry shops, specialty shops, restaurants, art galleries and a busy nightlife. While in Lahaina visit the Banyan Tree in Courthouse Square while you have some ice cream. Outside the touristy there is a pretty normal town with regular sized houses and waterfront properties with a small
parked in front. MAKAWAO – Located North of the island. This small town is very interesting, unique and a great place to walk around and relax, it’s up in the mountains and one main road is it’s most popularity. It’s a very quiet town with little traffic. Some small antique shops, jewelry shops and a few restaurants. Makawao has that Western feel,
you can buy cowboy boots in a one of the specialty shops. MAKENA – Located South of the island. This area has some of the most great secluded snorkeling waters. The further you go the more isolated it will get, expect to
drive on dirt roads and not pavement. You will find other snorkelers along the way. Along the road you will see the clear waters and on the other side volcanic lava. You can find some amazing beaches that are government protected and no swimming or snorkeling is allowed and when you see it, you will understand why, the water is
clear teal and some amazing tropical fish swimming around.
You will also find some over the top mansions on the road.
This area is highly monitored by local
security. PA’TA – Located North of the island. This small town is fantastic. Pa ‘ia is the windsurfing capital of the world. This quaint fun town has the whole package.
